Test of faith is a Progressive Metal band from the US. The cd contains of 3 tunes with crunchy progressive metal. Yeah, that's right it's not just progressive but it's crunchy too! They even have some thrash influences. I like that, more crunch and thrash to the people! It's the crunch and thrash-influences that makes this band to stick out from the rest in the progressive metal genre. On the negative side there are some annoying background sounds on the first tune. The music is also too slow and boring in the beginning of the third tune. But besides that the music is both happening and crunchy. Lyrics are totally biblical and full on for Christ. Great to see lyrics that are this bold and evangelical! All in all a very promising debut. I'm really looking forward to hear a fullength with this Christ-centered band. Check'em out, they might be the Christian Dream Theater we all have been waiting for. References: A most have if you are into Progressive Metal and thrash. Voila! This collection is filled with the cream of the crop of the christian metalbands in Finland. Compared to the first collection titled From Kaamos To Midnight Sun this collection contains more melodic metal and less brutal bands. First band out is Immortal Souls with their hybrid of melodic death metal mixed with power metal. A good tune. Oratorio is next. They are a new melodic metal band. The tunes starts very promising but then loses in tempo and intensity. If they just had kept the speed this would have been an excellent tune, now it's just good. Worship Factory's tune starts off with bells before it speeds up to a black tune. A pleasant surprise. The cool thing with this band is that they have plenty of beautiful atmosphere a la Antestor/Vaakevandring incorporated in their sound. The Power Metal band Hallowed then kicks off with a nice melodic rocker from their cd End of the Age. Tinnitus is next with their tune 2000 years. Melodic and progressive death metal. An excellent tune! C-Force, a brand new band to me delivers a fantastic melodic tune! Wow, some of the very best melodic metal I have heard for years. Destination is another pleasant surprise. Great melodic metal with lyrics that talks about that God can cleanse and forgive our sins if we turn to Him and asks for His forgiveness. Definately a band for the future. V.I.P is promising band as well. Their sound reminds somewhat of Tourniquet. Exlife plays commercial metal with lots of hooks. All in all the collection contains 15 bands and tunes. Some of the very few bands whom I didn't liked are Catrabbits, Icon Clan and Pulse. All in all this is an excellent collection that I highly can recommend. This cd is just too good to be missed... Theocracy is a worldclass Power Metal band from the USA. If you have not heard them yet you have truly missed something! Cause, if you love Melodic and Progressive Metal this is a quality band for you. Ghost Ship is Theocracy's 4th release and if you have enjoyed their previous albums you will surely enjoy this one as well. Catchy hooks, heavy crunchy riffs, singalong choruses, great vocals and thoughtful Christ centered lyrics makes this album to something extra. Great stuff! References: A classic and a must have to anyone into Melodic Metal/Power Metal or Progressive Metal! Looking for worldclass Power Metal, then Theocracy is what you are looking for! The band not only delivers topnotch Melodic Power Metal, but also manages to broaden the sound and even include some really heavy Thrash Metal parts. Very cool! Theocracy is now a 5-piece with two guitars, bass, drums and Matt Smith on vocals. The new members Val Allen Wood and Jared Oldham fits perfect in the band and make a great addition. Music is very wellwritten and well thought out. Matt Smith truly has a gift for writing variated tunes that also contain tons of catchy harmonies and mighty choirs and singalong choruses. Production is also worldclass. The lyrics are also of highest caliber, very intelligent and well thought out and heavily influenced of the timeless message in the Bible. The album is topnotch all the way through and there is not a bad track on it. This band is so extremely talented so it is truly a shame that big metal festivals like Sweden Rock Festival and Wacken Open Air have not invited Theocracy to play yet! References: A classic and a must have to anyone into Melodic Metal or Progressive Metal. Any fan of Power Metal will also drool of joy when they hear this amazing release! The first album with Theocracy was really something extra in the melodic power metal genre. The only thing that was missing was a real drummer. This time vocalist/guitarist Matt Smith however has got assistance by drummer Shawn Benson, that lifts the band to new levels. Another new addition to the band is the guitarplayer Jonathan Hinds, that also does a great work. Mirror of Souls is a very varied cd and as the first album is filled to the bone with tons of catchy harmonies and mighty choirs. The sound this time is also heavier and more progressive. One track is even thrash influenced. Something I really enjoy is also the outstanding production. The lyrics are also of highest caliber and as the first album they are both well thought out and Biblical. Something really cool with the cd is also the epic 22 minute title track Mirror of Souls. The album as a whole is topnotch and there is not a bad track on it. When it comes to Theocracy you can really talk about quality all the way and if you like melodic and progressive metal this is definately a must have. Truly a fantastic album from the beginning to the end and an album of absolute worldclass! If you have been longing for a Christian Power Metal of highest quality this is the one you have been looking for. A classic album and definately the best metal album of 2008! References: A classic and a must have to anyone into melodic/progressive metal, especially if you like Seventh Avenue and Harmony. For those of you that aren't familiar with these christian bands Theocracy has been compared to secular bands like Edguy, Avantasia and Symphony X. Theocracy hails from USA and consists of Matt Smitt on vocals and on all instruments. And he does a fantastic job! In fact many bands with full setting doesn't even come close to what he has managed to do on this album. Very tasty power/progressive metal with tons of hooks and guitar solos. The music is also very powerful and well thought out. Fantastic that there can be so much talent in one person! The lyrics are topnotch as well. They are both Christcentered, thoughtprovoking and inspiring. It's crystalclear that Matt really wants to honour God with his music. This cd is without a doubt one of the absolute best albums that was released last year. One of the few letdowns is the drum machine. Eventhough they are programmed very well they still disturb somewhat. With a real drummer this band there is no limits to how good this band can be. The Healing Hand and Sinner are also too progressive to my taste. But all the other tracks are very enjoyable indeed. To sum it up I can highly recommend this cd! It's definately a must have to anyone into melodic/progressive metal! References: A must have to anyone into melodic/progressive metal, especially if you like like Harmony, Narnia and Shining Star. Lots of new metalbands are popping up. One of them is the american band Third/Crow that recently released this cd. Musically it's pure Melodic Hardrock/Metal. The singer has a cool raspy voice reminding of Jamie Rowe (Guardian) and Dale Thompson (Bride). One tune that really sticks out is "On Forevers Edge". Another outstanding track is the instrumental tune that are their heaviest tune. The lyrics are evangelistic and they make no bones in Who they stand for. I like 6 of the 7 tunes so I recommend this cd. But I do think that they can do much better, I mean many tunes are good but not over-the-top-hit-tunes if you know what I mean. I miss the hooks that just grabs you and won't let go. They have great harmonies and good crunch but still I miss something. Anyway this is their first release and they got a promising sound so I'm sure they will improve this in further recordings. References: They got a sound of their own so it' hard to compare them with other bands but if you like melodic hardrock/metal you should give this cd a try. Ready for some thrash? Then this may be something worthy checking out. Cause what we have here is an independent release from a band that sticks to the oldschool thrash sound from the 80s. Typical for Temple of Blood's sound is also the frequent use of falsetto vocals reminding me of Guy Ritter that sang on the first Tourniquet releases. Lyrics are very Biblical, talking about Jesus' victory over satan and that Jesus become the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we can have our sins forgiven by believing in Him. There are plenty of timechanges and lots of chugga-chugga riffs to enjoy here. At times though it gets a bit chaotic and they lose the melody. My favourite track is Seeking The Truth with it's thrashy and crunchy rhythm. The falsetto vocals also sound excellent on this track while it on some other tunes can get a little on my nerves. While not a release that knocks me to the floor it's still some solid thrash that gives good hope for the future. I'll give it 3 thrashing guitars. Let's play Faster For The Master dudes! References: Oldschool thrashers will eat this up! Especially if you enjoy falsetto vocals a la Guy Ritter. This is the 2nd cd from this brittish band. The sound has changed quite a lot from their first effort. The music is more rough and dirty now. I really miss the melodic harmonies their first cd had. But a few tunes on Spiral still has these great hooks. The lyrics has also changed and are now a lot more vague. The only tune that openly talks about Christ is "violence". Lyrics goes "How can society handle, mankind's inner sin. Applying human logic, when they just need God within." This is also without a doubt my favourite and one of the few tunes on Spiral I really like. "paradise found", "man dies" and "spiral dow"n are some other tunes I like but that's about it. To sum it up Spiral is a big dissapointment to me. They can much better than this cd shows. References: People into groovy and dirty hardrock/metal might like this. The melodic metallers from Brazil are back again with a new release. Cd starts off with a very enjoyable instrumental. Music is overall really enjoyable. It's varied and the band has a great feel for making hooks and melodic harmonies and there are plenty of guitarsolos to enjoy. Lyrics are Biblical. The one thing that holds the band back is the vocals. It needs to be much more fluent and in tone. I think it's better if Moisés sings in his native language portugese instead, cause then it sounds so much better. He has a good voice but it doesn't sound good when he sings in a foreign language. I think portugese sounds really cool and to me it's just great if they sing in their native language (if they just do an english translation in the booklet, so I can get understand what they are singing). So I don't mind if they sing in portugese. As extra bonus they have put their entire EP Sacrifício at the end of the cd. On these track the singing is in portugese and it sounds great (both music and vocals). I hope Moisés continues to sing in Portugese in coming releases, cause that what he does best. References: Melodic metallers can give this a try. This band has tons of potential. Orderinfo: Check with the page http://w3.to/mmag Back to top
Templo de Fogo is hailing from Brazil and this is their debut. The cd consists of five tracks filled with classic melodic metal. They have a good sense for creating melody and hooks. This is happy sounding metal that makes you glad. I'm really impressed with the quality this release has. Great production, tight sound, plenty of variation, great guitarplay and fantastic melodies. This is truly Melodic Metal at it's finest! It's so good and wellplayed that I haven't got anything negative to say about it except that it's too short. (My only remark is that all band members have short hair and it would be better if they let their hair grow out.) All vocals are sung in portugese which can be a problem to some, but it do sounds very well and the vocals flows very well with the music. Lyrically they talk about the hope we have in Christ. Check out the new wonder from Brazil and you'll be positively surprised. Would love to hear a fullength from this talented band. Highly recommended cd! Progressive Death Metal from Finland this is, a quite uncommon combination, but it works. The cd is a ep with a total time of ca 21 minutes. First tune titled "you" is way too slow and never kicks off. 2nd tune has the same problem. "Love and Death" is better and has a lot more crunch in the guitars. The standout cut on this cd is No Regrets with it's crunchy heavy rhythmes, great hook and hardhitting lyrics. The lyrics talks about that you won't have to regret that you choose to follow Jesus. An outstanding tune in all ways. "Reijo" is another hardhitter that I enjoy. A bit chaotic but fast and cool. Typical for Tinnitus is also that they have plenty of timechanges. All in all this is a good debut that I recommend. References: Check it out if are into progressive death metal. Orderinfo: Available from the band at their webpage: http://www.webb.net/sites/tinnitus/ Back to top
Veritas is Tinnitus 2nd release, and as their first this is a EP. This time with 3 tunes. Tinnitus continues with their caracteristical style best described as progresssive death metal. First tune never grabs me. 2nd tune is better and has a nice guitar solo. 3rd tune titled "why should I fear" is also pretty cool but I miss something for it to really stand out. Lyrically Tinnitus have bold Christcentered lyrics with lots of interesting things to say. All in all I miss something on this cd to really like it. More guitar solos and melodic harmonies with more hookfeel would do this band good. Sometimes the sound is way too gloomy to my liking. References: Check it out if are into progressive death metal. Orderinfo: Available from the band at their webpage: http://www.webb.net/sites/tinnitus/ Back to top
This is Tinnitus latest EP-CD. "2000 years" feels like a return to their successful style on the "No Regrets" tune from their first EP "Iron Will". Stylewise this is Progressive Death Metal with plenty of crunch and hookfeel. 2000 Years is a great tune and a perfect combination of melody and brutality. 2nd tune is just a short jingle that was partly recorded in a sauna! (Typical for finnish people :) The sauna was so hot during the recording so the microphone got destroyed and almost melted. Despite this the production is excellent on this mini-cd. I really hope Tinnitus get signed soon so they can reach more people with their unique music and great message. I would also love to hear a fullength with this band. Enough with ep's now Janne, Fredrik, Stefan and Kenneth, it's about time for fullength! If you are into death metal that's both progressive, crunchy and melodic this ep shouldn't be missed in your collection. References: Fans of Schaliach and early Deuteronomium should definately give this a try. Orderinfo: Available from the band at their webpage: http://www.webb.net/sites/tinnitus/ Back to top
Tinnitus continues on with their tradition of releasing EPs. This is their 4th one. It contains the tunes Soul Escape and Human Creation. Stylewise Tinnitus plays Progressive Death Metal with plenty of crunch and hookfeel. Soul Escape has plenty of melody but the chorus is unnessary complicated and loses the beautiful harmony the rest of the tune has. A good tune nevertheless. Human Creation is a great tune that I totally love! It has plenty of crunch and melody. It also has good lyrics talking about the importance of first loving ourselves to be able to love others. Production is excellent. Tinnitus just gets better and better with each release and I really hope they get signed soon so they can reach more people with their unique music and great message. If you are into death metal that's both progressive, crunchy and melodic this ep shouldn't be missed in your collection. References: Fans of Schaliach and early Deuteronomium should definately check this out. Orderinfo: Available from the band at their webpage: http://www.kase.fi/tinnitus/ Back to top
Tourniquet is back again! This time they return to their thrash roots. (Yes!) As always though with this band they love to experiment, so it's not pure thrash but more a combination of all metalstyles you can think of plus some more music styles including classical music. There are plenty of timechanges and lots of variation. Mostly this is a strength but sometimes it just gets too much. Something that stands out with Tourniquet is the excellent drumming by Ted Kirkpatrick, the only one of the founding members that are still in the band. Lyrics are written in an intelligent way typical for Tourniquet addressing several issues while still pointing to God our creator. There are plenty of nice smooth melodies and harmonies to enjoy on this cd. This and the thrashbased sound makes the music really enjoyable. Production is excellent. Favourite cuts are The Tomb of Gilgamesh and Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror. On the negative side there are 3-4 tunes that I don't like mostly because they are too chaotic and the singer shouts too much. This cd it's not really in the caliber of the Pathogenic album overall but it is definately one big step forward in the right direction. I'm sure almost any metalhead will like this album because of it's melodic and thrashy feel. I dig the album and give it a 3+. If they continue to play thrash with melody and skip the chaotic and repetetive stuff and the singer Aaron quit with the shouting, next album might be the masterpiece we are all waiting for. References: Highly recommended if you like thrash with melody. Fans of christian bands like Believer/old Deliverance as well as secular bands like Metallica are gonna love this album. Tourniquet continues on with their unique combination of progressive metal. As usual when it comes to this band there are plenty of timechanges and lots of variation. Mostly this is a strength but sometimes it just gets too much. Lyrics are written in an intelligent way typical for Tourniquet addressing several issues while still pointing to God our creator. As on the Microscopic album there are many great melodies and harmonies to enjoy on this cd. This and the thrashbased sound makes the music rather enjoyable. Production is excellent. Favourite cuts are the title track, Convoluted Absolutes, Healing Waters of Tigris and Melting the Golden Calf. On the negative side I dislike about half of the tunes mostly because they are too disharmonic or too slow. I liked the Microscopic album better than this one and I'll give it a 3- rating. It's still an ok album but not a shredder. Still I'm sure many metalheads especially die-hard-Tourniquet-fans will enjoy this cd. If they incorporate more harmonies to their sound, skip the chaotic and repetetive stuff and speed up the tempo next cd may be a masterpiece. Oh Yeah! Here we got something cool - a tribute album with covers of some of the best tunes in Christian Metal!! The bands / tunes that are covered are Stryper / To Hell With The Devil, Bride / Heroes, Bloodgood / Out Of The Darkness, Saint / Too Late For Living, Leviticus / Flames Of Fire, Jerusalem / Rebels Of Jesus Christ, Rez / Silence Screams, Creed / Meet Again and Force 3 / Warrior Of Light. And what a tribute it is! The tunes are very close to the originals and also have some extra finesses in between. The singer is really good in imitating the different singers. One song he fells short though is the Stryper - tune where he doesn't come up to Michael Sweets standard. But on most of the tunes he is doing really good. The band that have made this album is to 3/4 made up of members from Lightmare, Seventh Avenue and Crystyne. They are very tight and have also done a tune of their own that's awesome! The musicstyle on the album is real Heavy/Power Metal and they have done a great job in covering the classics. Most of the tunes are just as good as the originals and some are even better! The only tune where I don't think they match the originals is as I said before, the Stryper - tune. (But anyway their version of their tune is tons better than the parody - Stryper - tribute that were released some years ago.) Some tunes that really stands out are Bride - Heroes, Creed - Meet Again and Leviticus - Flames of Fire. These tunes are even better than the originals. Meet again has a great lyric that talks about how wonderful it will be when we meet all our dead Christian brothers and sisters in Heaven. What a day that will be! There are to say it short: plenty of Metal - classics to enjoy on this album. One thing I wonder though is why did they include Force 3?? They could have chosen a classic with Whitecross or Deliverance instead. ... But as always you can't get everything... References: I can highly recommend this album to all who love real Heavy/Power Metal. If you want to hear these classics again or haven't heard them at all this is you chance to get a piece of Christian Metal History. Thrash from Brazil isn't that common and I'm glad to hear that there are popping up thrash bands all over the world. The music has plenty of timechanges and lots of crunch. Vocals are brutal but hearable. Lyrics are evangelical. Sometimes the music gets slightly repetitive and the vocals could be better but all in all this is good stuff. Trino is a promising band but doesn't beat Believer and old Vengeance Rising yet but with some more practise they might be in pair with them. This is a good thrash album from a promising band. I give it a 3+. Mosh it up dudes! References: Thrashers will have something new to enjoy. Orderinfo: Mail metal@metalmission.com or check with the mailorder companys listed here Back to top
This is a new band hailing from the USA. All tracks are made by Randy Michaud (also called Trog) with the help of some of his friends. Typical for the band's sound is that it's groovy 70s metal. Troglodyte Dawn has also made a parody cover of Black Sabbath's tune After Forever and called it Forever After. They have also adjusted the lyrics to point to Christ full on. Definately one of the best tunes on the cd. Another favourite is the cool live track Redeemed. Some other fave's are Flower and Look On The Cross. The tunes has plenty of variation and harmonies. Production is good but it could be thicker. On the negative side I find the instrumentals Dawn and Dood boring and way too slow. There could also be some more crunch and heaviness to the tunes. Overall though it's a really cool release and a solid debut. Something I really like with the cd is that the lyrics are very biblical and Christcentered. They are really food for your spirit and give food for thought. This is a release I really can recommend. I give it a 3+. References: Fans of 70s metal like David Benson and SonX will definately enjoy this release! For those that aren't familiar with christian bands I can highly recommend it to fans of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. Progressive Metal from Canada is a cool combination and Trytan do it well blending varied technical metal with catchy hooks and sing along choruses. Vocals are high pitched yet well controlled. Compared to their keyboard based debut Celestial Messenger their 2nd album Sylentiger has an improved and much heavier and more guitar based sound. Originally Sylentiger was released in 1990 and now finally in 2020 it has been remastered and rereleased. The remaster has improved the album with a much thicker and crunchier sound. Besides the music I totally enjoy the Christcentered and inspiring lyrics. With great varied music and lyrics like this I am more than happy to recommend this album. I give it 4 progressive metal guitars! References: Fans of Progressive Metal overall are gonna enjoy this! For those that aren't familiar with Christian bands I can highly recommend to check it out if you are into Rush & Fates Warning. Orderinfo: Back to top
Tykküs hails from America and their style is Classic Heavy Metal. They remind a bit of Saint. Another band that comes to mind is Eternal Ryte. The fourtrack cd kicks off with Born To Die, which is a real heavy rocker with some crunchy hooks and driving riffs. Another good track is Warfare, that has both tasty guitar solos and encouraging lyrics. Last track With His Love has a crunchy rhythm and great harmonies. The production is good and the cd has a clear sound. Vocalist Randy Michaud also does a good job handling the vocals. I really like Tükkus sound, it's both heavy and melodic. Their cool sound combined with an uplifting message about salvation through Jesus Christ makes this cd a winner in my ears. The only problem with the cd is that it is over way too quick. Would love to hear a fullength with this cool talented band! References: Fans of classic Heavy Metal like Saint, Judas Priest etc will love this.
