Oblivion Myth | Oratorio | One Bad Pig |
Oblivion Myth is a new band to my ears, although they have been around for many years. The band's motto is "Eternity is real, Oblivion is just a Myth". Hailing from USA their music style is Progressive/Power Metal somewhat reminding of Theocracy and Darkwater. Compared to Theocracy I would say that Oblivion Myth are much more progressive. Music mostly has a Progressive US Power Metal feel to it. I like the commanding driving guitars and occasional falsetto screams. Oblivion Myth are definitely skilled and the album is wellproduced. My favorite track is the ultramelodic "Battle Angels" with its catchy European Power Metal leanings making me think of bands like Seventh Avenue and Theocracy. Awesome tune! Some other faves are "Beyond This Home" and "War Child". Personally I would like the band to explore the musical direction on these tracks more on coming releases. I also enjoy very much that each tune are based on the Bible and have scripture references. On the downside there are lots of progressive elements in the band's sound and unfortunately I am not the biggest fan of Progressive Metal overall, so therefore this not appeal so much to me as I wish. But to each own. I do however enjoy most tunes and hear that this a professional quality band with tons of talent. So I am happy to give this album a 3+. References: Check it out if you are into Progressive Metal / Power Metal and are looking for something more progressive than Theocracy. If you are not familiar with Christian bands I suggest to check it out if you are into bands like Symphony X.
After years of absence the crazy punk thrashers One Bad Pig is back! They play an unique mix of punk and thrash or as I would describe it "punk attitude with metal heaviness". When asking the band what style they play they said "Pig Metal". Typical for One Bad Pig is also that they have lots of humor in their music and lyrics while still being serious. They are definately one of a kind and as crazy as it gets, but some fresh air for all that wants something unique. Anyway, I love One Bad Pig and I do enjoy the comeback album especially the tracks Sunday Skool Rawk, Heads Will Roll, Ben Moors and Red, White and Blue. One Bad Pig is however not all about crazy stuff but they are also very focused in what they do and wanna show people the way to get to know God personally. Booklet features an easy to understand message about how to get a personal relationship with God and a salvation prayer. All in all a cool comeback album. Welcome back OBP, you have been greatly missed! References: A must have if you enjoy both punk and metal!
Melodic Power Metal from Finland, that's what Oratorio gives us. And they do it well! This is the perfect music to have in the background when you are training in the gym etc, since it's both melodic, heavy, crunchy and fast. Lyrics are really Biblical and a few tracks are in fact praise tunes. Overall the tunes are good or excellent. The only track that feels like a filler is the last track of the album. So, what can I say else than this is really great stuff! I look forward to hear more from this promising band. References: If you like Melodic Power Metal this is a must have, especially if you are looking for a Christian band in the veins of Stratovarious.
