GOD  IS  A  THREE - PART  GOD
You see God is a three-part God and are three persons in one called God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. They are three persons in one and are always united in will.<1 Corintians 12:11> To understand this better think about this picture: water, ice and steam are all three different parts of the same element called H2O.

It's the same case with God. He is also one part, God with three "elements" called God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. But as you know the same piece of H2O usually don't exist in the three parts (water, ice and steam) at the same time. (It can happen though under very special circumstances) But the cool thing with God is that He is always all three parts at the same time!

BUT  WHAT  ABOUT  THE  HOLY  SPIRIT?
Is the Holy Spirit a ghost or something?? No man He is not a ghost, He is God. That means that He has all the characteristics that God (the Father) have. The Holy Spirit is for example everlasting <Hebrews 9:14> and ever present <Psalms 139:7-10>. The Holy Spirit is totally equal with The Father and The Son. <Matthew 28:19> The Holy Spirit is also the spirit of the Father and the Son. That means that whenever the Father and the Son speaks the Holy Spirit comes out from their mouths. Pretty cool eh?

THE  HOLY  SPIRIT  IS  ALSO  A  PERSON!
Yeah, that's right! He is not only God but also a real person that we can fellowship with. He is a real person. He can speak <Galatians 4:6, 1 Timothy 4:1>, be insulted <Hebrews 10:29> and have a will (that's always exactly the same as the Father's will and the Son's will) <1 Corintians 12:11>. The Holy Spirit is a real person and He wants to fellowship with you. And as you know, you can't get to know a person if you don't spend any time with him. Therefore it's very important that we take time to be with Him. We all need to take time with the Holy Spirit every day to be able to get to know Him better.

WHAT  FUNCTIONS  DOES  THE  HOLY  SPIRIT  HAVE?
  • The Holy Spirit is our powersource, that means He is the one that gives us power so we can live for God and be salt and light in this dark and filthy world. <Book of Acts 1:8>

  • He is the helper that Jesus promised to send us. He is the Helper that lives in us, is with us and never will forsake us. <John 14:16, Hebrews 13:5>

  • He is the dynamite in our Christian life. He is the one that makes our relationship with God living.

  • He wants to be our best friend and share our problems and successes. He wants to lead and help us in every detail of our lives.

  • Helps us to understand the Bible. <2 Peter 1:20-21> The Holy Spirit makes the Bible living and easier to understand.

  • Reminds us what Jesus has said. <John 14:26>

  • Helps us to pray with the right words. <Romans 8:26-27> Sometimes it's hard to know how we should pray, but if we ask the Holy Spirit to help us, He helps us to pray with the right words.

THE  HOLY  SPIRITS  DWELLS  IN  US!
The Holy Spirit is already living in us! <1 Corintians 3:16> He moved into our lives when we decided to follow Jesus. He lives in you and me today and He wants to fill us with His power. But it isn't until we invite Him and let Him have full control of our lives that we will be filled with Him. It isn't until we give the Holy Spirit full control that we receive the power we need to do God's will.

WE  ARE  TOTALLY  DEPENDENT  OF  THE  HOLY  SPIRIT!
As long as we aren't filled with the Holy Spirit we try to serve God in our own strength but when we are filled with the Holy Spirit we serve God in the Lords strength. That's quite a difference, eh?

In fact we are totally dependent of the Holy Spirit to be able to do the will of our heavenly Father. A good example of this is Peter, one of the first followers of Jesus. Before he was filled with the Holy Spirit he was so coward that he even neglected that he knowed Jesus. < John 18:17, 25-27> But after he was filled with the Holy Spirit he became so bold that he preached to a big congregation and 3000 people were saved! <Book of Acts 2:14-41> Talk about a big change!! God can do such a change in your life too, if you just let Him fill you with His Spirit.

SPEAKING  IN  NEW  TONGUES
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we usually start to speak in new tongues. That means that we start to pray with words we don't understand ourselves. It's a new language that God gives to us so we can pray and worship Him with the right words.

Sometimes this language can be a foreign language that we don't know at all. This was the case when The Holy Spirit fell over the first Christians. Although they didn't know the languages God spoke through them in Arabic, Italian and many other languages! <Acts 2:5-11> This still happens all over the world today! God can use someone to speak prophetically with a personal message into another person's life, although the one that shares the message can't understand a word of what he is saying. But still the message that he/she shares speaks into someone elses life in their language.

Sometimes it's very hard to know how to pray but if ask the Holy Spirit to help us, He helps us to pray with the right words.<Romans 8:26-27> When we speak in tongues we get uplifted in our faith <1 Corintians 14:4> and reminded of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Speaking in tongues can also work as a sign of God's presence in us Christians for those whom not yet believe. <Book of Acts 2:5-12>

WELCOME  THE  HOLY  SPIRIT  IN  YOUR  LIFE!
The wonderful thing is that you can be filled with the Holy Spirit today! All you have to do is to welcome Him into your life and ask Him to fill you. Then it's just to open you mouth and speak out the words that God wants you to speak. And even if the words sounds strange and maybe reminds of words that other use that pray in tongues, you shall not worry. Because it can't be wrong. Just open your mouth and speak out the words that God puts in your mouth and the Holy Spirit will fill you with his Awesome Power! So don't hesitate but let The Holy Spirit fill you today! I mean, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain so what are you really waiting for?

BUT  HOW  CAN  I  KNOW  THAT  I'M  FILLED  WITH  THE  HOLY  SPIRIT?
Speaking in tongues it's the most common sign and also the most the visible sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit. <Book of Acts 2:4, 10:44-46> The Holy Spirit also has many other gifts so don't be depressed if you don't speak in tongues. You might have got some other gifts instead. <1 Corintians 12:4-11> The most important thing isn't speaking in tongues but that you start to let The Holy Spirit be your best friend and a part of your daily life. The Holy Spirit lives in you and gives you power to stand strong for Jesus and be a light in a dark world.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the best thing that can happen to you next after salvation. The Holy Spirit gives us a preview of Heaven. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is also far more than just speaking in tongues, it's the start of a living relationship with the Person The Holy Spirit. Try to keep up and improve that relationship every day.
